Fortune favors the bold

I live a very comfy life in Philly after doing a lot of research on where I wanted to raise my kids & how affordable different cities are around the country. I was lucky enough to buy a house before the pandemic & the current housing crisis. It's enough for my family to have comfortable, private spaces while still being within earshot. I did a lot of painting, furniture rearranging, & appliance updates over time. It makes me feel pretty secure in my family's future & safety.

Most people my age (33) don't have that option & it deeply saddens me. The millennial generation is struggling just to pay rent in an apartment they can't control & don't own. I know some people don't want to own homes, which is fine, but for those that do, it seems entirely unrealistic now. Inflation has risen across utilities, gasoline, groceries, etc., meaning that saving money is nearly impossible.

Large corporations own most of the apartments; they are buying many of the private homes, leaving housing prices high with minimal options for families. As a black woman, I've always wanted a home for myself that was a place of safety that I can control. It's difficult seeing some of my peers struggling with harassment from tenants & piss poor landlords of rundown apartments.

The evil overlords of the world are stripping away rights to protest, our bodily autonomy, & safety (shelter & affordable housing). I hope more people find resources to assist them in the home buying process, including multifamily homes to circumvent housing costs. People deserve safety, comfort, & a sense of ease. The basic necessities of life shouldn't run us all into the ground. We deserve peace.
